Well Met Hosts a Weekend of Sporting Fun with Mott MacDonald Games

Well Met, the conferencing office of Leeds Beckett University, welcomes 600 employees of Mott MacDonald, a global engineering, management and development consultancy, to Carnegie Great Outdoors, Headingley Campus, for their annual sports day this weekend (Friday 10th – Sunday 12th August 2018).

The event helps encourage and raise awareness of healthy activities and wellbeing through a fun filled day of activities with something for everyone – running, cycling, volleyball and football to name a few, as well as traditional school sports day activities.  The stakes are high and there are some fierce office rivalries, that take bragging rights very seriously, especially the War of the Roses!

This is the first time the annual Mott MacDonald sporting event has taken place in Leeds, having previously taken place in Bath, Birmingham and Edinburgh.  The excellent sports facilities, coupled with accommodation on site and the quick access to the city centre, made Headingley campus an obvious choice.

Colin Greensill, divisional director at Mott MacDonald, commented: “Our yearly sports day offers a great chance for Mott MacDonald employees to engage in a friendly day of competition and meet all of our colleagues and their families. We’re delighted to host the event in Leeds this year and are looking forward to a fun filled day.

“We’d definitely work with the team at Well Met again, the sports and accommodation team have been very accommodating, helping us through the process.  They’ve helped us throughout to tailor what they can provide to ensure Mott MacDonald get the most out of the venue this August.”

There are a wide range of sports and team building activities provided by Carnegie Great Outdoors.  Some of the activity highlights include indoor climbing, requiring determination, physical fitness and problem-solving skills coupled with trust in fellow team members.   Puzzle Proper is a mentally challenging exercise exploring the vital part each member of the team plays in a workplace task.

If that feels too much like the world of work however, participants can instead turn their hand to the Tower of Power.  A physical problem-solving exercise where teams work together to design a plan to retrieve an object from the top of the mobile 20-foot high climbing tower.  Conquering the tower requires dexterity, leadership, a dynamic and flexible approach – oh, and a head for heights!  All under the watchful eye of Carnegie Great Outdoors’ team of fully qualified and experienced coaches, making sure everything runs smoothly and safely.

The Mott MacDonald sports day follows an intensely busy period for the Well Met team, of national citizenship summer schools and newly qualified teachers’ summer institute on behalf of Teach First.  The traditional holiday period sees as much activity as term-time for the Well Met conferencing side of Leeds Beckett University.

Clare Vidler, Conference Manager, Well Met, said:

“Summer is an exceptionally busy time for us and summer schools and conventions are a key part of our business. Due to the variety of facilities and venues on our estate we can tailor our offering to suit the needs of our customers.

“Headingley Campus has an enduring appeal with a variety of organisations due to its accessible location, excellent on-site facilities and beautiful setting and we are always delighted to welcome back repeat visitors.”

In 2018 we’ve hosted sports foundation and corporate games, to international language schools and trainee teachers. The Well Met team will welcome over 2,000 delegates to Leeds filling a total of 8,928 beds this summer.
